Yes. This is absolutely normal . There are absolutely no guarantees your savegames will work or can be used once you install a new patch for this game. 

The patch installer tells you to use this patch only on a fresh game install and that it will potentially break any older savegames.

I just installed this patch, all my saved games are now erased... is this normal? I've lost all my progres?
